Country: South Africa 🇿🇦
Louis Du Pisani is currently a 3rd year student at the Stellenbosch Academy of Design and Photography studying Visual Communication. The Academy is in the Western Cape of South Africa near to Cape Twon. Stellenbosch and Cape Town are places rich in culture, heritage and filled with amazing photographic opportunities. Louis grew up in a surfing community in Mossel Bay, a small coastal town, situated in the heart of our beautiful Garden Route. This community fostered in Du Pisani a deep respect for the ocean which is where his love of the visual began. Slowly his experiences of surfing turned into a documentation of moving and still images. In 2014 he bought his first GoPro and started taking it out surfing. His very first approach towards creating imagery was generated in the form of videography. Social media spaces created the opportunity to share these images, which ultimately drove him to take on photography and videography as a career. Photographing surfing and skating has been a part of his life ever since. Louis Du Pisani describes his process by stating, “ I’ve reached a point where documentary photography and videography has become a space which I call the foundation of all my creation. Portraiture has been my focus for 2021, created with Digital and Analogue methodology. Drone perspectives have given me an external and holistic view of the world as I look down on life in all it’s amazing facets. I’m only at the start of my photography career and I’m ready for anything coming my way.”
