Themistocles Kaltsidis

Country: Greece 🇬🇷

I was born and raised in Athens, Greece. Raised amongst noise, packed streets and constant distraction, I became accustomed to it. Earbuds back then were a luxury but I had a pair on 24/7. Music offered me an escape from the world and led me to study audio engineering.
At the age of 22 I started traveling the world, looking for a place to accommodate my anything but ordinary personality. I travelled to London, Berlin and Los Angeles, but still had no place to call home. I’ve enrolled in four universities and dropped out of three. I transitioned to photography and film later in life. Looking back, it was inevitable really, and my background in engineering helped me to learn everything tech-related quick. In 2016 I moved to Los Angeles and started shooting professionally.
Life in LA stressed me out significantly, so in 2018 I decided to move to Santorini with a sole purpose - to escape the rat race.
I was often told that my work is a bit too dark for weddings and that my aesthetic would be a good fit for Scotland or Norway but not for Santorini. I was told that I should focus more on the technical genres of photography like architecture and commercial.
Well, you guessed right, that didn’t bother me. My knowledge in technical lighting and my love for dramatic art helped me create my own signature style.
Since 2020 I have received over 30 significant international photography awards, amongst them: two 1st places AsiaWpa, 1st place in WPE, Cosmos, Weva etc. In the summer of 2023, I will be launching my first workshop, The Art of Technical Lighting.
