Shourjendra Datta

Dr. Shourjendra Datta is an orthopaedic and trauma surgeon based in Kolkata, India, with a special interest in shoulder surgery. Alongside medicine, he has spent years documenting the diverse traditions, rituals, and everyday lives of people across India.

A self-taught photographer, his work explores the intersection of culture, faith, and human experience, ranging from the ritual performances of Theyyam and Gomira to the living traditions of Puri, Varanasi, and rural India. His photographs have received recognition in international photography competitions and have been exhibited and published worldwide.

He is a PFIAP, EFIAP/s, and recipient of the National Human Rights Commission Photography Award, India. Through long-term documentary projects, he seeks to preserve and celebrate India's rich cultural heritage while telling stories that connect people across geographical and cultural boundaries.
