Umut Karahasanoğlu is a Turkish documentary photographer and visual storyteller. Since beginning his photographic journey in 2011, his work has focused on people and their relationship with the places, cultures, and environments they inhabit.
He has worked across Asia, Europe, and Africa, documenting diverse cultures, ethnic communities, traditional ways of life, and everyday human stories. For Karahasanoğlu, photography is not simply a way of capturing a moment, but a means of understanding people, places, and cultures and translating those encounters into visual stories.
His practice is particularly focused on long-term documentary projects exploring different cultures, ethnic communities, and traditional ways of life. By returning to the same places and communities over the years, he follows cultural change, traditions, and the evolving relationship between people and their environment.
Karahasanoğlu works as a freelance photojournalist for Anadolu Agency and contributes photography and stories to Atlas Magazine. Alongside his photographic practice, he also works as a mathematics teacher.
Through his work, he seeks to tell human stories from different parts of the world and create visual connections across cultures.
