The Minas de Riotinto are copper mines located on the Tinto River, in southwestern Spain. Mining activities have been documented since historical times. Much of the copper from the mines is transferred to chemical plants in Huelva province. The unearthed minerals give to the soil and waters of the region odd, otherworldly shades of blue, green, yellow, red, orange and brown.
