The Sub Antarctic Islands are a haven for large marine mammals and a beach can be shrouded with hundreds of elephant seals. Elephant seals will congregate in large numbers and line the beaches in the Sub Antarctic regions during the mating and shedding periods. They thigmotactic and will lay on top of each other despite the enormous space around them.
